The Trail to the Lost Lantern

A fawn and an owl find a lantern behind a fern beside a woodland stream.

Fawn came home from a walk. His lantern was missing. Without its light, the evening trail looked strange.

“Let’s think about our walk,” said Owl. “First we stopped by the old oak. Then we crossed the stream.”

They checked under the oak. They found leaves and acorns, but no lantern.

By the stream, Fawn saw his hoof print. He remembered stopping there to tie his basket.

Owl looked behind a fern. A metal handle shone beneath a wide green leaf.

Fawn moved the leaf. His lantern stood on a dry rock, right where he had left it.

They lit the lantern and walked home. Its warm light showed the roots and stones.

Fawn thanked Owl. Thinking back through their walk had helped them find what was lost.
